VTT Companion: Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Welcome to VTT Companion. We are committed to protecting your privacy.
This policy explains how we handle data when you use our mobile application and our associated Foundry VTT module.

Our guiding principle is Data Minimization: we only process the data strictly necessary to provide a functional character sheet experience.

2. Data Collection and Usage

VTT Companion is a client-side tool built on the principle of Data Minimization. We only collect and process data strictly necessary for functionality, and we never store your game data on our own servers.

Game and Character Data

• Your Game Data:
  All character stats, spells, items, and campaign-specific content are stored exclusively on your self-hosted Foundry VTT server or your GM's server. We have no access to, ownership of, or storage of this data. The connection is a direct link between your mobile device and the Foundry VTT server URL you provide.

Device-Level Storage

• Local Storage:
  We use Capacitor Preferences (local storage) on your device to remember your Server URL, Actor ID, and UI preferences (like Pinned Tabs). This data never leaves your device.
• Authentication:
  When you connect to Foundry, your username and password are sent directly to your Foundry server via a secure socket. We never see, store, or have access to your credentials.

Data for Platform and Services

• Beta Testing & Updates (Tally.so):
  We collect names and email addresses via Tally.so exclusively for distributing beta testing invites and project updates. This data is not shared or sold. You can unsubscribe at any time by contacting us.
• Patreon Integration:
  If you've subscribed to our Patreon, we use your linked Patreon and Discord accounts to grant you additional roles and benefits in our Discord server. We do not receive your Patreon billing details or other sensitive account information. See Patreon's Privacy Policy for their data practices.

3. Third-Party Services

Our app interacts with the following third-party services:

• Google Play Services / Apple App Store:
  Used for app distribution and (eventual) processing in-app purchases.
• Socket.io:
  Used for the technical real-time connection between the app and the server.
• Foundry VTT:
  Used for the core functionality of the app, which connects to your Foundry VTT server.

4. Legal Compliance (Regional)

A. European Union (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to access, rectify, or erase any personal data we may hold. Since we do not store your character data on our own servers, you should contact your Game Master or server host to exercise these rights regarding your character data.

B. California, USA (CCPA/CPRA)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), you have the right to know what personal information we collect about you, the right to delete that information, and the right to opt-out of the sale of your personal information. We do not share your data with third parties for marketing purposes. Since we do not store your character data on our own servers, you should contact your Game Master or server host to exercise these rights regarding your character data.

C. Asian Markets (APPI, PDPA, PIPL)

Under the Asian data protection laws (APPI, PDPA, PIPL), you have the right to know what personal information we collect about you, the right to delete that information, and the right to opt-out of the sale of your personal information. We do not share your data with third parties for marketing purposes. Since we do not store your character data on our own servers, you should contact your Game Master or server host to exercise these rights regarding your character data.

5.Intellectual Property and Licensing

A. Dungeons & Dragons System Reference Document (SRD)

This application incorporates and relies on the System Reference Document 5.2 (“SRD 5.2”) by Wizards of the Coast LLC.

• Creative Commons: The SRD 5.2 is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC-BY-4.0).
• Usage: VTT Companion provides a limited interface for displaying system information. We do not sell, reproduce, or claim ownership of the content within the SRD 5.2. All mechanical data (stats, spell descriptions, item names) is provided by the user's self-hosted Foundry VTT server.
• Disclaimer: This application is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Wizards of the Coast LLC.

B. Foundry VTT Usage

• Independent Development: VTT Companion is an independent, "fan-made" project developed by Alexandræ. It is not an official product of Foundry Gaming LLC.
• Software Connection: This app functions as a "client-side viewer" that connects to a user’s existing Foundry VTT installation via an API. We do not distribute the Foundry VTT software, core source code, or any protected assets belonging to Foundry Gaming LLC.
• Module Requirements: Usage of this app requires the installation of the Companion Bridge module on a legally licensed Foundry VTT server. Users are responsible for ensuring they comply with the Foundry VTT Limited License Agreement regarding their server hosting and data usage.

C. Content Responsibility

• User-Provided Content: All character artwork, campaign-specific text, and third-party module data displayed within the app are the property of their respective owners. VTT Companion acts only as a portal for data that the user has already uploaded to their private Foundry server.
• DMCA/Copyright: We do not host any game data on our own servers. If you believe your copyrighted content is being displayed illegally, please contact the owner/host of the Foundry VTT server to which the app is connected.

6. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

VTT Companion is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, we will delete it immediately.

7. Account and Data Deletion

• In-App Data:
  You can clear all app data at any time by clearing the app cache in your device settings or using the "Change Server" button to wipe local session data.
• Subscription Data:
  You can manage or cancel your data through your Patreon account settings.

8. Future Monetization

While the app is currently free to download, future versions may include In-App Purchases. Any such transactions will be handled securely by Apple or Google; we will never store your financial information on our systems.
